Mt. Everest- the tallest mountain in the world, is a great source of pride for Nepal and Nepalese. The mountain towers at an altitude of 8,848 meters in the northern part of Sagarmatha National Park. Also known as Sagarmatha in the Nepali dialect, the mountain is revered as a sacred symbol in the country. As one of the most popular natural wonders in the world, Mt. Everest also housed many famous trekking trails. Everest Base Camp Trek is one of these journeys across its foothill that highlights the riches of the region.
Initially, the trip to Everest Base Camp starts from Kathmandu with a scenic flight to Lukla. Then, you gradually ascend across the Khumbu Valley to reach the base camp. From Lukla, you follow the Dudh Koshi River and reach Namche Bazaar. After spending a day in this wonderful town, you make your way to Tengboche. The majestic Himalayas like Ama Dablam (6856m), Nuptse (7861m), and Island Peak (6189m) offer you great company as you trek through numerous Sherpa villages. Further, you trek past Dughla and Lobuche to reach Gorakshep. Finally, you get to visit the Everest Base Camp and the next day you will hike to the top of Kala Patthar, which provides spectacular views of Mount Everest itself as well as Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and other nearby mountains. From Everest Base Camp you can’t actually see the summit of Mt Everest, which is why hike to Kala Patthar.
