The Gokyo with Everest Base Camp trek is an incredible adventure that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Starting from Lukla, you’ll trek through picturesque Sherpa villages, dense forests, and rugged terrain before reaching the stunning Gokyo Lakes. These turquoise lakes are surrounded by towering peaks, including Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth-highest mountain.

From Gokyo, you will hike to Gokyo Ri- Standing at an elevation of 5,357 meters, Gokyo Ri is a popular trekking destination and is often included as part of the Gokyo Valley trek or the Everest Base Camp trek. To reach Gokyo Ri, trekkers typically start from the village of Gokyo and ascend gradually through rocky terrain and glacial moraines.

The final ascent to the summit is steep but manageable for most trekkers with a good level of fitness. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with unparalleled vistas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and numerous other peaks that dominate the Himalayan skyline.

After hike Gokyo Ri, you’ll continue your journey towards Everest Base Camp, passing through the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas before crossing the Chola Pass (5,420m). Crossing Chola Pass is one of the highlights of the trek, but it’s also the most challenging part. The pass is often snowy and icy, especially in the early season, so proper gear and caution are essential. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of surrounding peaks. Therefore, the trek culminates at the base camp of the world’s highest peak, offering a sense of accomplishment like no other.

Experience required

This trek in the Khumbu Valley explores regions above 3,000 meters so this trek is moderate to challenging. On average, you will walk up and down around 5-6 hours per day which can stretch to 8-9 hours on some days. So, you require a good level of physical fitness, stamina, stair climbing or hill walking with well prepared for the trek. During this trek, we put extra two days for acclimatization. Having a couple of days to acclimatize on the way up the trail, gives you the best chance of a safe and successful trip in the mountain. We believe a good level of fitness will help you enjoy this trek.

The best time to do the Gokyo trek is during the spring and autumn seasons, which typically fall between March to May and September to November, respectively. During these months, the weather in the Everest region is relatively stable, with clear skies and mild temperatures, making for excellent trekking conditions.
