Climb Island peak

Island peak climbing offers an unforgettable climbing experience beyond simply trekking in Nepal. Situated to the south of Mt. Everest (8848m), it stands out as an island surrounded by glaciers. Moreover, this peak is also an ideal option for trekkers and beginner climbers to test their climbing skills. The trip starts from Lukla which is the gateway to Everest and ascends gradually to the Island Peak Base Camp. Then, the climb to the top of the peak officially begins.

Initially, a short flight- 35 minutes from Kathmandu takes you to Lukla. From here, we trek alongside the Dudh Koshi River to join the company of the illustrious Sagarmatha National Park. Thereon, the trail leads you to Namche Bazaar where we will spend an extra day to acclimatize with the altitude. Following the Imja River, you head to Tengboche and continue to Chhukung. When we arrive at the village you will hike up to Chhukung Ri (5550m) then the next day we’ll trek to Island Peak Base Camp, At the base, camp our climbing guide provides climbing training practice. The toiling climb to the top entails steep sections, snowy paths, and glacial moraines. Ultimately, the top of the peak offers a majestic panorama of Mt. Everest (8848m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8481m), and many other mountains. After the climb, you descend back to Lukla and end your adventure in the Himalayas.

Experience Required

Since the trail on this trip offers many challenges as it ascends to an altitude of 6,189 meters, it requires previous mountaineering climbing experience such as rock climbing, ice climbing, basic rope knowledge, and high-altitude walking with crampons. Our team don’t just lead the trip, they work with clients closely to provide specific training for Island peak to build your climbing skills, and strength and give encouragement to climb a little higher. Alternatively, if you haven’t been over 4000m walking experience and some climbing experience, we highly recommend the Everest base camp trek, this trip is a great choice before the island peak climb to develop acclimatization. The Island peak can be climbed during both the autumn and spring season, both seasons are the ideal time to climb the Island peak.

Gokyo & Everest Base Camp Trek

The Gokyo with Everest Base Camp trek is an incredible adventure that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Starting from Lukla, you’ll trek through picturesque Sherpa villages, dense forests, and rugged terrain before reaching the stunning Gokyo Lakes. These turquoise lakes are surrounded by towering peaks, including Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth-highest mountain.

From Gokyo, you will hike to Gokyo Ri- Standing at an elevation of 5,357 meters, Gokyo Ri is a popular trekking destination and is often included as part of the Gokyo Valley trek or the Everest Base Camp trek. To reach Gokyo Ri, trekkers typically start from the village of Gokyo and ascend gradually through rocky terrain and glacial moraines.

The final ascent to the summit is steep but manageable for most trekkers with a good level of fitness. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with unparalleled vistas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and numerous other peaks that dominate the Himalayan skyline.

After hike Gokyo Ri, you’ll continue your journey towards Everest Base Camp, passing through the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas before crossing the Chola Pass (5,420m). Crossing Chola Pass is one of the highlights of the trek, but it’s also the most challenging part. The pass is often snowy and icy, especially in the early season, so proper gear and caution are essential. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of surrounding peaks. Therefore, the trek culminates at the base camp of the world’s highest peak, offering a sense of accomplishment like no other.

Throughout the trek, you’ll immerse yourself in the rich Sherpa culture, staying in cozy tea houses and interacting with local communities. The Gokyo with Everest Base Camp trek is a challenging yet rewarding experience that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

Experience required

This trek in the Khumbu Valley explores regions above 3,000 meters so this trek is moderate to challenging. On average, you will walk up and down around 5-6 hours per day which can stretch to 8-9 hours on some days. So, you require a good level of physical fitness, stamina, stair climbing or hill walking with well prepared for the trek. During this trek, we put extra two days for acclimatization. Having a couple of days to acclimatize on the way up the trail, gives you the best chance of a safe and successful trip in the mountain. We believe a good level of fitness will help you enjoy this trek.

The best time to do the Gokyo trek is during the spring and autumn seasons, which typically fall between March to May and September to November, respectively. During these months, the weather in the Everest region is relatively stable, with clear skies and mild temperatures, making for excellent trekking conditions.
